1998, 1998
1998 was an artist-run-space installed in three containers on the Dan Graham Plaza in Nantes, France, reconfiguring a dormant public space project as a venue for exhibitions, performances, concerts and impromptu gatherings. Its year-long activities were documented in a monthly newspaper of the same title.

• Hello?

• Good morning, dan Graham.

• Yeah, hey.

• Did delphine Bedel explain you our project 1998?

• Yeah, and I just red the letter I've never received.

• Perfect, so you know we are interested in your environment in Nantes to install our containers.

• Well, I think it's a normal public space, but I think it should be used for temporary things.

• 1998 is temporary.

• Yeah, ... what?

• 1998 is temporary.

• A pubblic space should be usable, otherwise it's a plaza. I can't see any reason not to use it.

• So, you give your permission then?

• Absolutely.

  I think it's a boring place, it's a very great neighbourhood but the piece is not properly realizedand I think the more that happens there, the better.

• We agree.

• The location is unbelievable with the bridge and...

• And the planes that are coming over...

• And the portugese restaurants. Nantes has a great artschool but is not a very good place to live. The more that happens there, the better. We don't want to turn everybody in to slaves.

• Can you give us a written permission?

• When I go back to New York I'll do it.
